The Choices For Children program, in partnership with Wake County Human Services provides a community approach to recruiting, supporting, and preserving families in Wake County.

Our goal is to recruit & support foster parents, the bridge to helping families!

Foster parenting is not a lifetime commitment to a child, but a commitment to be meaningful to a child’s lifetime

Requirements for Becoming a Foster Parent

Services are targeted to families referred by Wake County Human Services who are receiving foster care, kinship care and CPS services.

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • A legal Wake County resident
  • Married or single
  • Have a stable home and income
  • Have adequate sleeping space for a child
  • Be able to read and write
  • Submit to a criminal background check
  • Complete 30 hours of required state training


We’re looking for foster care parents who can care for children ages 8-17 and be willing to take sibling groups in their home.

  • Care for a child until their parents can resume responsibility
  • Make a commitment to help a child through a difficult time.
  • Encourage positive relationships.
  • Work as part of our team in preparation for reunification.
  • Be open-minded.
